When Little Bodies Are Busy Growing… Why Snotty Noses and Sleep Changes Are Often a Sign of Progress

mum holding babyAt Advanced Health Chiropractic, we often see that right before a baby or child progresses in their development, they tend to show signs of a fever, cold or disrupted sleep patterns.

From our perspective, this is one of the most common and beautiful patterns we could see.

As babies and children grow, their nervous system is constantly adapting to new information and growth with learning how to roll, sit, crawl, stand, talk, walk, and more. These developmental surges take energy, coordination, and a clear line of communication between the brain and the body.

And just before these exciting moments? It’s not uncommon for the body to signal a little “wobble” as it gears up for what’s next. Whether it’s a detox, a busy little immune system or simply a sign their bodies need more nurturing during these times – we look at it positively as a sign of a healthy growing child. However, that doesn’t discount the fact that this is the time they need their chiropractic care most.

Signs Your Child Might Be Hitting a Developmental Milestone:

  • A sudden runny nose or slight temperature with no other signs
  • Disrupted sleep or clinginess
  • Seeming “off” for a few days
  • A bit more drool or digestive upset
  • A noticeable shift right before they wave, sit, crawl or babble for the first time

Have you noticed this in your child? Here’s Why

These small shifts are often signs the nervous system is under load, recalibrating and integrating something new. It’s like an outward sign of everything happening within.

And because the nervous system is in charge of everything from immune function to motor development, it makes perfect sense that the immune system might express a little change too. Remember: symptoms like fevers or runny noses aren’t always signs of sickness, they can be excellent signs of function, showing that the body is working exactly as it should.

With this, we encourage our parents to turn to the things that nurture little ones through this time. Chiropractic first and foremost will support your child to adapt to the load they are under, and move forwards with optimal health, healing and development.

Why We Check and Adjust During These Times

This is one of the best times to support your child’s nervous system. A chiropractic check helps ensure that communication pathways between the brain and body are clear, so your child can adapt, grow, and thrive through these changes with ease.

In fact, many parents at our practice tell us their child seems more settled, more connected, and even reaches new milestones with confidence after their adjustments.

Every child develops at their own pace, but one thing remains true: when their nervous system is supported, their body knows what to do.

If you notice your little one hitting a “wobbly” patch, it might just be the sign of something amazing around the corner. Let’s make sure their nervous system is ready for it.
